September 1, 2008 is officially the 99^th Baguio Charter Day anniversary celebration. Corollary, it is “day zero” - the start of a long line of centennial activities leading to Baguio’s grand 100^th.

Realizing the September 1 fête “is likewise the onset of the Baguio centennial celebration,” mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr. last week issued Administrative Order (AO) 135, series of 2008, officially assigning “warm bodies” to head this year’s Baguio Day working committees.

He said, “There is a need to synchronize this year’s celebration with endeavors conceptualized by the Baguio Centennial Commission (CenCom).”

“As thus,” he added, “we deemed it best to involve our commissioners in the planning and implementation of our September 2008 activities.”

AO 135 named Bautista as chair of the oversight committee. He is joined by Baguio representative Mauricio Domogan (honorary chair), vice mayor Daniel Fariñas (co-chair), CenCom chair Virgilio Bautista (chief advisor), and city administrator Peter Fianza (secretariat head).

Meanwhile, Bishop Carlito Cenzon and councilor Fred Bagbagen share chairmanship honors for the program committee.

On the other hand, police traffic chief Patricio Degay and CenCom commissioner Geronimo Evangelista co-chairs the parade committee. They will be joined by local transport coordinator Perfect Itliong, Jr. and City Disaster Coordinating Council – Disaster Operations Center chief Engr. Archimore Ellamil in doing the planning and implementation chores as action officers.

For sports, Sangguniang Kabataan federation chair Gloria Ysabelle De Vera and CenCom commissioner Charles Cheng shall share chairmanship honors with city sports development officer Fidelino Villafuerte as their action officer.

Finally, the secretariat composed of the City Administrator’s Office staff shall backstop the working committees and take care of tie-in events.

Bautista said, “The heads of the working committees are free to pick hands to complete their respective teams.”

“This,” he said, “is to give our committee heads more room in choosing their respective members, which they believe are capable of giving the people of Baguio a good show.”
